Hey, guys. I’m trying to export some effects out of After Effects as an alpha channel for my editor who is using Final Cut Pro. The problem is that the Quicktime with the alpha channel shows up strangely in the FCP project. There are weird black borders around anything with feathering.

Conversely, this alpha channel works exactly as it should when loaded into Premiere Pro.

So my questions is why isn’t Final Cut reading the alpha channel properly? Is there a setting we should be using? Thanks!

Set the alpha in FCP to premultiplied with black.

    All the best,

to make tom’s suggestion more specific: highlight the clip, go to Modify -> Alpha Type -> black

    FCP assumes unpremultiplied.

Which, frankly, is annoying. Most CG and graphics are premultiplied.

Thanks for the tips, guys. Modifying the alpha type helped, but it didn’t seem to 100% eliminate the black.

Based on your advice, I’m rendering out the alpha channels out from AE as “straight.” That may be the solution.

    Thanks again!
