Alpha Channels
how do I create an alpha channel for a graphic that doesnt have one. I was recently given a quicktime from a client of a graphic but it was simply on black. No Alpha. How do I create 1. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE

Key out the black with color keyer? Try another keyer if it looks bad.

I usually go for ‘extract’ instead of the color-keyer.

Basically knoll created a quick keyer for it’s lens flares, keys out black. Free handy little plugin.
Apply that, then apply a levels effect and change the pulldown from RGB to Alpha, then tweak your levels as needed. Generally just crush the blacks say to video imput 16 to 35.
Should give you a decent alpha.

Or Transfer Mode > Screen on a pure green layer, then precomposing it, and keying it.
It isn’t the best option… but it could come handy if keying doesn’t work.
