So I’ve read the older posts about the “Allocating disk space” error but have found no real solution yet. I’ve gone through the preventive maintenance procedures listed here:

    https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/care_feeding_panther.html

    First of all, my specs:

    OS 10.3.9
    Dual 2.5-gig
    6.5-gig DDR SDRAM
HUGE Systems 800-gig drive, RAID striped to ~640-gig (big wide SCSI connection), HFS+ formatted
    FCP HD 4.5
    Canopus ADVC-100 external card

I just got the machine in the office a couple of weeks ago and this is the first time I’m trying to digitize from our Beta SP deck. The scratch disks are all set to the HUGE drive (Huge). When I hit “Capture Now” I get the ADS error and the spinny wheel of frustration. Force quit works after 4 or 5 times, then Hugh disappears. I’ve trashed the prefs a couple of times now (as well as a gargantuan 560-gig junk capture file) and after DiskWarrior saved Hugh most recently, I go to the forum for suggestions. Norton is nowhere near this machine.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks much in advance,
    Amy

Amy- Don’t know if I can help but that ‘560 gb junk capture file’ intrigues the hell out of me. We edit Beta SP 8-bit Uncompressed and 30 gigs is right at 1/2 hour. That makes that one file more than 9 hours of 8-bit uncompressed. Wow…. that means Hugh probably choked on a side of beef and needs a heimlich!

I recomend that the disk be erased and re-formated mac os extended (not journaled). But first empty the trash.
    Hope this helps.

Yeah, I’ve definitely emptied the trask. But I’ve also read of this issue before:
    https://www.creativecow.net/forum/read_post.php?postid=110800464025244&forumid=8&highlight=allocating%2Cdisk%2Cspace

I don’t know, there wasn’t much follow-up with that question so I’m hoping to get more information before I try digitizing again. I know I can get the drive back but there’s something else that’s not right, and I haven’t figured out what exactly it is yet.

    Thanks,
    Amy
