All video clips turned red on timeline and lost picture?
Posted by James Rudge on May 23, 2011 at 1:02 pmI reopened a project yesterday and it seemed that my projects video clips had lost their picture and turned red on the timeline
Is there anyway I can resource the videos to their source file or anyway/reason why they have lost their picture and turned red on timeline.
it is infact only the files that i converted in avidemux to avi files that have lost their picture
cheers

What codec did you use in the AVI files? Red frames are usually a resource issue.

May 23, 2011 at 1:38 pmThats odd. You shouldn’t be having problems with M-JPEG. Are you using Vegas Pro 64-bit or 32-bit?

Depending on how big your project is, working with HD on a 32-bit system is very resource constrained. How much memory do you have? (sorry I didn’t ask this earlier) Adding more memory and moving up to Windows 7 64-bit might be you next move. As I said, red frames is usually is a low resource situation.
Open the windows Task Manager and see how much memory you have available once the project is loaded. I’m guessing it will be a very low amount.

May 23, 2011 at 2:58 pmive just had a slight suspision that i imported them accidently striaght from the sd card and now that i have removed them from that and put on my hard drive is there anyway i can sort that.
actually that cant be it as i placed the converted ones on the hard drive. does the source file still have to be in same folder
getting very frustrated

I think you may have found the problem. It looks like you are out of memory. Try closing all other applications to get some memory back. I know Vista does some funny caching and reports false free amounts but it does seem like you don’t have enough resources available for Vegas.

Once you’ve converted them and pointed the project to the converted files you can archive the source. It’s not needed for your project.

i went on a vista forum which says its mornal for vista computers to have low physical memory
i think its just because ive lost the clips or something because theyre no showing picture in project media window either
