Strange problem. Everything else works ok, but cross dissolve does not work against black (between clips is ok, but not between “nothing” and the clip. All other dissolves work ok both between clips and black “when you have nothing in the front or back of the clip”. Anyone seen this behaviour before ?

    Anders,

Trash your prefs and see if that helps — it usually cures sudden strange FCP behaviors.

I’ve found it to be better to just fade out the transparency of the layer (pen tool – 2 keyframes) rather than trying to use a dissolve transition to do it. Problems have been common with the latter method.

I have seen a similar problem but only after I had upgraded from 4.5 to 5.1.1 without upgrading my quicktime player/codec.
Have you recently done an upgrade Anders?

    Anders,

Don’t know what the problem is, but I find the cleanest fade to black comes from a black matte layer on top and keyframe the opacity slider on it.
