  All-exterior DSLR shooting tips

  So I’m shooting an entirely outdoor forest/bush set short film in October under a possibly harsh contrasty Australian sun. I guess the first thing I should do is pray for clouds? But if i did that, how would I go about making sure the light still has some shape to it? Opting to avoid bringing a generator along, would having some battery powered LED’s be a good idea? It would be entirely lit by daylight otherwise.

  What are some other things I should be taking into account when shooting entirely outdoors?

  The primary things that come to my mind are having reflector boards, ND filters, and perhaps some diff sheet to put up in a frame. What else is there?

  What exactly is negative fill? Is it simply placing a black on one side of the talent so no light what so ever bounces back onto them?

  FYI, I’ll be shooting with two a7s ii’s. I’m contemplating s-log2, possibly useful in our heavily contrasted sun?
