  • All Clear? (Quicktime 7.4. and AE CS3.) Is it over yet?

Ok…I really appreciated the banner headers, smoke signals, text messages and town criers alerting me to the evil nature of Quicktime 7.4 and After Effects.

(The message was something like….”It will melt your system, warm the planet and make your children do stupid things….”)

I got the message…and thank you all for saving me some hair pulling/frustration and general loss of work time.

I am embarrassed to ask….Has the “All Clear.” been sounded yet?

Does 7.4.1 undo all the evils? Can I move forward with an update without fear?

I have heard NOTHING on this topic for a while and I am feeling a little let down by y’all.
If there was a memo…I didn’t get it.

May I emerge from the bunker without fear to view the light of day? Or is the installation of Quicktime 7.4 still to be feared…..

    Thx.

i haven’t updated… but i’ve heard 7.4.1 has fixed what was broke and many people are happy now.

you might want to check out what is new to 7.4 and decide if you need anything it has to offer. if it doesn’t, then you might just stick with what you know works…

I’m running 10.5.2, After Effects CS3, and QT 7.1.4 and haven’t had any problems. I also did the After Effects 8.0.2 update from Adobe.

Like you, I too was being cautious. Luckily, the posting on the Cow alerted me to the 7.4 update before I installed it. After 7.1.4 came out, there seemed to be posts indicating it had fixed the problem. I waited about a week or so, and not hearing any horror stories, decided to take the plunge. Everything I’ve tried seems to work okay so I’d say you’d be okay to upgrade.

I made a bootable SuperDuper clone of my system drive to external hard disk 2 weeks ago and then upgraded the whole system to all latest versions including QT7.4.1 and the Leopard Graphics Update and so far I have had no use of the clone, IE; everything seems to work alright and I haven’t run into any problems. I’m using FCP 6.0.2 and AE 8.0.2 with BlackMagicDesign DecklinkHD Extreme on a MacPro.

As a free-lancer who can’t afford the luxury of having a production system totally off the internet and a secondary system only for web surfing this was very relieving as there are some pretty bad security holes in QT previous to 7.4 that can be exploited on web pages to gain control of a visitor’s computer.

    cheers
