I am doing some humanitarian work in foreign countries and in a couple of months I will need to do some video editing while in the field using Premiere Pro and After Affects. My limiting factor is cash (budget is around $1,200).

I am looking at getting an Alienware 14 with the following specs:
    – 8GB Dual Channel DDR3L at 1600MHz
    – NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 750M with 1GB GDDR5
    – 4th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-4700MQ processor (6MB Cache, up to 3.4GHz)
    – 14″ WLED FHD (1920 x 1080) Anti-Glare Display

Will this sufficiently handle Premiere Pro and After Affects? If not, what would you recommend for my budget?

Under the hood should be OK. Memory might be a constraint if you do intensive AE compositions. My biggest concerns are the 14″ screen size and HDD. First available money should go to a monitor and SSD. Another option would be the Precision notebook; similar hardware to Alienware but with Quadra graphics and matte screen. Look for outlet discounts if budget is tight.

Thank you for your help. I ended up purchasing a nice machine from the Dell Discount site.
