  • AJA LHe with FCP showing no communication via RS-422

Posted by Kat Sicard on September 9, 2008 at 3:27 pm

I’m running FCP v 6.0.4 with the Kona LHe, which is running software version 6.0. I’m trying to digitize from my DVCPro HD deck, the HD150. In FCP I’m using the easy set-up for Panasonic DVCPro HD, using Aja Kona LH-720 p 59.94 DVCPro HD. Device Control is set to AJA LH: 59.94 Panasonic VTR.

When I go to digitize, I see the video and the audio coming through fine via SDI, but FCP says that I have no communication with the deck. I’ve tried two different RS-422 cables, so I don’t think it’s a bad cable, and I’ve connected the deck directly to the card. I know I could crash digitize it, but I really need the timecode to come in as well.

In the Kona LHe Control Panel, under the Timecode tab, I have it set to RP188 LTC, and it is showing the correct timecode there.

I also tried the card in both expansion slot #2 and #3, and checked the expansion utility to make sure it is running at full speed.

Any suggestions as to how to get Final Cut to recognize the deck control via RS-422?

Does this deck support RP188? and is there a setting on the deck that turns this on/off

    Cheers,

Can you control any other deck with your Kona?

I wasn’t able to control any deck with the card, which was another concern. But I just swapped it back to slot #2, and now it works just fine. It must not have been seated quite right in the slot. Thanks for the help!

Local vs Remote on the deck?

i am having a similar problem Both in FCP and in the AJA VTR Xchange Application I have no deck control thru the RS-422 cable that runs out of my AJA card (In final cut pro it says No communication) in the AJA VTR Xchange Application it says: “make sure you are connected to the serial port.” I am sure all my cables are tight. This is the first time I have used this Aja card(cable) cause I’ve just set up a new FCP station. 2.66GHz Quad-Core Intel and I have installed the G-Tech 4-Port, PCIe x4 RAID Controller into slot 4….Aja LHi card in slot 2

PS I have no remote option on this DigiDeck
