AJA LHe card– LOUD gain and hiss on G5 Quad; output sound way too high

I checked a Quicktime file that I played through FCP, and the sync is right on, but playing that same QT file in Quicktime produces a delay. A DVD played in the MAC’s DVD player also has an audio delay.

Since I would like to play all of audio through the Mackie, I would like to make the adjustments needed to have sound sync with any audio outputted from the Mac.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi again…

Strange… After I opened the QT file in Final Cut, I opened the same file in QT and then a DVD in the MAC DVD player, and the sync was fine. Maybe it was a temporary driver conflict?

We noticed the same audio sync problem when going through our mixer. We used the RCA outs from the KL-Box to our monitor which temporally solved our sync problem until we can look into it more. If you still have problems with audio sync feel free to contact me as we seem to have very similar set ups.

Hi Dejan,

Once I opened a Quicktime file in Final Cut Pro, and then opened a QT file in Quicktime, the syncing issue went away. Very strange.

Perhaps we should open a new thread on this topic so that others who are experiencing the same issue can join in on the discussion.

Glad it worked out for you.
As far as the sync issue, I’m not seeing that here, and it sounds like a temporary issue if its resolved now. On very rare occasions I’ve seen sync drift…usually after running my system without a re-boot for a few weeks. You’d be surprised what a simple reboot can do to solve most problems.

The Mackie is great, I have the XLR’s from the Kona going into channel 1-2, other equipment in other channels, as well as Aux inputs and outputs which allows me to route audio in and out of the Kona and video decks without touching cables. A very flexible and useful mixer thats given me 6+ years of trouble free service.

I’m absolutely loving my Mackie 1402 and my Kona card also.

Regarding teh Kona card… a sound engineer friend of mine thought that it was odd that the Kona utility panel only allowed for either +18db or +24db in the output audio settings. He thought that this was why the gain was so high coming into the mixer. I wonder if Kona can change that to allow for a zero db output level from the card?

Interesting…maybe there’s something on the Kona site that explains this. It seems to control the monitor output (RCA??).
I only use the XLR’s into my Mackie and the Mackie sends the signal to all equipment that need it, so I haven’t hooked anything up to the RCA’s yet.

Glad you like the Mackie!! When you’re ready, match it with a Control Surface!!! The Mackie MCU has been wonderful here. I edit a TV series and a bunch of corporate projects. Being able to edit and mix on the fly is incredible. B&H is sold out, but it goes for $999. Plays nice with SoundtrackPro, and Logic— obviously.

PS: I don’t work for Mackie 🙂 I just love their products and have used them in broadcast facilities, edit houses, and now my own business. I couldn’t recommend anything else.

Mackie has always been good to me too. I bought the 1402, and it’s a well-made mixer.

Actually, when I select either the +18db setting, or the +24db setting, it also affects the output from the XLR outs (from the far left “Balanced Audio” XLR connections”. I haven’t tried to see whether
the AES/EBU outputs would be affected, since I have the mixer connected to the “Balanced Audio” output connection.

I will look into the other Mackie hardware that you suggested.
