AJA Kona 3 Luminance Shift with AE
Hey guys,
I seem to be having a problem with my video out of AE. I have a pretty complex comp that I’ve done in AE that I need to bring into FCP7; the problem is that when I look at the comp through the reference monitor in AE it looks fine, but when I bring it into FCP7, the footage is noticeably brighter
Even after messing with the Color Management settings it still looks brighter.
If I look at the original footage with no Color Management on in AE through the Reference monitor the mid’s look slightly higher, but the black look more crushed than if I watch it through FCP7.
Whats the best way to keep luminance consistency throughout?

FCP7 pays no attention to color management and often mishandles RGB renders.
If you’re rendering to an RGB codec, you may be able to fix this problem on the FCP side. After importing the item into FCP, select it in the browser, hit Cmd-9 to pull up item properties, right-click on the gamma value (defaults to Source) and select 2.20.

In FCP it doesn’t have anything next to Gamma. I did however export one version with no Color Management, and one version with, and the one with was much brighter and my green screen keys didn’t seem to hold up as well.

FCP doesn’t understand color management, so the differences are not surprising.
What codec are you rendering to from AE? What CM settings are you using?
