AJA IOHD – 720P/60
My set up:
2.4 Macbook pro
G-Drive esata
AJA IOHD
Panasonic AJ-HD1400EWould someone be so kind as to tell me how best to configure FCS2 and the AJA control panel for a project shot 720P/60 with the Varicam. I’m in the UK if that makes any difference?
And if I’m editing using Apple ProRes HQ for example, how do I master my final edit to a format that supports Apple Pro Res or am I being daft? Can I just layoff back to the Panasonic HD deck onto a DVCPro tape?
Help would be most appreciated.

Is that 60.0 or 59.94?

The cameraman tells me it’s 720p/60 although the deck indicated 59.94.

It can be both and you need to set the deck accordingly. My hunch is that if you are in a PAL environment, it’s 60.0. In that case, set the deck for 720p and 24/60 (instead of 23/59)
Now can FCP capture it? I am not sure. Gary Adcock will know. You might have to make up your own 60.0 preset

hey Boris,
welcome to video in the states.
If the deck tells you that the content is 59.94- it is, your camera person is using the NTSC slang for the panasonic frame rate.
the IoHD 720p 59.94 setting should work correctly, and you are better off working in ProRes for any editing that needs any kind of effects, graphics or transitions do to the larger 10bit color space over the 8bit DVCProHD native compressed content.
Just layback to the deck over HDSDI, the opposite of the process of your capture.

I’m new to HD and find it very confusing.
If it’s shot 720p/59.94 then that presumably means I’ll have to convert my final edit to PAL using Atlantis for example in order to lay off a PAL DVCAM copy? Why would a cameraman shoot 59,94 in the UK?

Are you sure the tape is 59.94? The deck says 59.94 on the panel, but that is simply reporting what mode your deck is in. You have to physically change it to 60.0. I can probably scrounge up the exact menu number if you’re interested.
Other than that, I have no idea. Are you sure he didn’t shoot 720p25 over 60? If he did shoot 59.94, are you sure he didn’t shoot 23.98 for a later conform to 25?
Curious.
