  • Aja Io + Xserve RAID – rack mounting

    Hello everyone.

Have just taken delivery of AJA Io + XServe RAID + Quad G5.

What I want to know is whether it is possible to rack-mount the XServe RAID in a half-width rack that has been fitted with an adaptor frame for mounting 19 inch equipment vertically.

In other words, is it possible or even advisable to rack mount the XServe RAID vertically. I can find nothing about this on Apple’s web pages or in the supplied user manual.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated, thanks.

    Best wishes,

    Alan Doc

yes, you can. You can run the XServe RAID and the AJA I/O upside down if you like. But the XServe RAID is deep, and wants to be in a 26″ deep rack.

I’ve run my Xserve RAID for over a year in the vertical position with no issues at all.

Vertical is fine for the Xserve RAID’s as stated above. I remember someone used to sell (maybe still do) a device to stand it vertically on the floor (or your desk) so it wouldn’t take up so much space. It is very heavy though and you need to make sure its well secured. Personally, I’d leave it horizontal, but that’s just me.
