    Hi all,

I am currently a problem which is incredibly frustrating, as it is very intermittent. Essentially what I am seeing is 1 or 2 scan lines being shifted a few pixels to the right in a pulsing on/off rhythm. It is typically between 3-10 frames apart, though that seems to vary between occasions.

Here is my system set up:

    G5 1.6 GHz single processor
    Mac OS 10.4.3
    1028 MB RAM
    FCP 5.0.4
AJA control panel 1.1 (firmware has been updated according to control panel)
Reference is being used along a chain, finally being terminated at our scopes with a 75 ohm terminator.
Video is being captured to a ATTO SCSI raid (4X 75 GB SCSI disks)
I have disconnected all other firewire devices from the G5, though I still have a PCI firewire card installed

Perhaps related (or perhaps not) is the fact that I am forced to re-boot the IO on a fairly regular basis due to video playback problems (high black levels, scrolling picture – it is different every time).

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. As I say, it is an intermittent problem (before today, the last incidence was probably about 1 month ago.)

    Thanks very much,

    Craig

just for now, pull your FW card. Open the AJA Pro I/O control panel, and pass video thru your I/O – just sit there with coffee and watch it – any shifts? This type of intermittent can drive you crazy.

Also, in the control panel under control, set the I/O to FREE RUN (no reference), and see if the shifting goes away.

What brand of black gen do you have (I hope it’s not an ESE).

    Thanks for the response, Bob.

Unfortunately, you don’t actually see the hits while it is capturing, just when you play back from FCP (or even quicktime, for that matter).
As another possibility, do you think this could be a drive issue? We’re running a 4 drive raid through an ATTO SCSI card. The drives are Maxtor 10K SCSI drives, and it is running on two channels (2 ports on the card, each going to 2 drives).

Thanks again. Any thoughts are much appreciated.
