    Hi to everyone!

We are considering to use an io HD to caputre dailies from HDCAM @24fps. We plan to install the io HD next to the HDCAM VTR an then run a firewire 800 cable to another room where is our Mac.

What is the maximum length for a FireWire 800 cable to work correctly with the AJA io HD.

Can it work correctly with FireWire 800 extenders?

    Best regards,

    Jj

it is not recommended to use anything longer than 3 meters for any FW connection.

If you do you want to work at greater distances you had better test, test, test to see if there is an increase in the frame delay or response to the unit on capture.

What Gary says, it’s easier to run SDI over great distances. I’d keep the mac and ioHD together and run video cable if need be.

    Juanjo,
this is what you are going to do. You are going to purchase a long piece of Belden 1505A cable. This will allow you to record both the HD-SDI video signal, AND the embedded audio signal, so you only need to run one piece of video cable. OH YES, you will do this. You will not consider a FW800 extender.
