AJA fcp
Posted by Christina Rule on February 11, 2009 at 12:13 amI have AjA kona card that i use to view my edits from FCP on tv. I am having problems viewing uncompressed 8 videos on the tv. I believe it is a problem with finalcut because when i open the uncompressed mov file with AJA tv it plays back fine. When I try to playback on my timeline all i see is the frame that my playhead start at. The footage plays in FC fine. My seq setting are
1280×720
30fps
compressor-uncompressed 8
my video playback output is aja kona 8 720pJeremy Garchow replied 17 years, 3 months ago 4 Members · 5 Replies -

February 11, 2009 at 12:50 amHello Christina.
Try hitting control-q, and then choose the AJA Kona2 Uncompressed 8bit 720p 59.94 setting.

February 11, 2009 at 1:51 amstop using audio/video setting. Choose an Easy setup (like Kona DVCProHD, etc.), and then open up a NEW sequence. This will automatically match the easy setup that you choose, and then you will not have a problem.

February 11, 2009 at 7:41 amHey I did get it thanks! I needed to change my seq setting to 59.95! makes so much sense now.
Jeremy.. remember awhile back we were talking about what was the best codec for me to use on my system? You suggested dvc pro hd and another person had suggested Pro Res(HQ) I did a few tests and I found that on both that when I added a transition/text I got an orange bar and dropped some frames on playback Is this most likely for all real time codec? Also what kind of system would you recommend for working with uncompressed rt?

Bob
there are no easy setups for 720p30- it is not considered a SMPTE format.

Yes, I remember that clearly. The reason why I said DVCPro HD for an ‘offline’ codec and not ProRes on your system is because you have a PowerPC dual 2.0 G5. If you had an intel machine, I would most definitely say use ProRes. Since ProRes is a pretty processor intense codec, capturing ProRes requires an intel machine. Now, since you are only playing back from Maya renders, it could be a different issue, but I still wouldn’t recommend it. With your particular machine, I’d use DVCPro HD for offline edits, reconnecting to your Uncompressed renders later.

Had you converted your Maya renders to these codecs as well? It’s not only the sequence codec, but the codec of your source footage that has to be in this codec for the rt engine to work. You should be able to get real time dissolves with 720p30 material in DVCPro HD on a dual G5. I used to get it on a g4 laptop and firewire drives.

From that earlier thread you mentioned:
