    Aloha,

I have a AJ-HD1200 deck connected via FW from my G5.
In EE mode on the deck, video from FCP jumps on the external monitors (both the SD Composite monitor w/ overlay & HD-SDI monitor). We will soon be in EE mode all the time when editing and the jumping is going to drive me crazy.
This is a known issue apparently (see menu item 031 – OUT REF) and affects only the output, not what is laid to tape.
    Is there a known solution?
Does anyone else experience this issue as well?
A previous post in here related the issue to timing discrepancies between the FW port on the G5 and the deck (the deck being more precise than the G5). Any idea if a nice FW PCI card would resolve the issue?
If there is no setting or sync generators, my only thought is that I would need a HD-SDI card for my G5. What is the favored card for this type of application? The AJA KonaLHe (It has DVCPROHD acceleration)?
Should I post this in the FCP room?

    Thanks for any suggestions!

That jump is noted as the image being disturbed in the vertical direction in the 1200A manual. it is normal.

The solution is to get a capture card and monitor through that. I prefer AJA products, they work splendidly. If you don’t need up-conversion in the future and you need analog input, the LH series is the way to go. If you think that you need up-conversion and no analog input, The Kona2 (pci-x) or kona3 (pci-e) is the way to go.

Ditto to what Jeremy says. You can’t monitor your video via the 1200A through Firewire. This also includes Editing to tape via firewire as well. the video will jump and hitch in the monitor as it’s being laid down but the actual master will be fine.

    Arghhh!
Thanks guys, not what I wanted to hear, but at least there is a workaround and I know it’s not just my setup.
Is there a known reason why it doesn’t work?
Anybody got an extra HD out card laying around? 🙂

[Mike Peele] “Is there a known reason why it doesn’t work?”

Because that’s the way Panasonic designed it.
