I am trying to capture 720p 30fps on an ajhd-1400 over firewire and keep getting a video cadence error.
I am using FCP 5.0.4 and have previously captured 720p 24fps from an ajhd-1200 without any problems.
anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this.
checked all the deck settings and they are okay.
I am thinking that there is an incompatibility between the 1400 and final cut 5.0.4 I found a compatibility chart for the 1400 on panasonic’s website which said it was compatible with final cut 5.1.
If anyone has some ideas on how to fix this I would greatly appreciate it as it will take quite a while to get the 5.1 upgrade from apple. seeing as I have to mail in the CDs and all.

    thanks

[gkeiner] “I am trying to capture 720p 30fps on an ajhd-1400 over firewire and keep getting a video cadence error.”

in FCP 5.04 that is telling you that you are trying to capture over a TC break or a variable frame rate capture that is not at 30fps. (VFR;s are handled at 23.98)

The other question is what was the footage shot at if you are trying to capture 30 when the tape is 24 that is not going to work either.

the footage was shot at 720 30fps. which if I uderstand correctly is basically removing everyother frame from the 59.94 stream yeilding a 29.97 clip.
yes. I am doing a couple tests and it seems to be an issue with 5.0.4 I have another machine that is still at 5.0 and teh capture seems to be going fine.
    I’ll keep you all posted.

5.0 is better but not perfect. In 5.0 I can capture the 720p 30fps fine and it removes the pulldown, BUT and this is strange, it is overshooting the outpoint. That is to say. I set my oupoint at the end of a take or the point I want stop at but when I capture the deck will keep capturing well into the next take despite the fact that the timecode is not what I set it at.

Anyone care to guess at what is going on here. This has been a frustrating experience with the ajhd-1400. I have a 1200 on the way hopefully it will yeild better results.

Seeems to be the problem is my Xserve RAID. I can not pinpoint the issue exactly. But The problem only occurs with the RAID I was atempting to capture to. I can capture to another internal dirve. and different Xserve and have no problems. For some reason it is this one RAID. So, I made sure jounraling was disabled. disabled cache clearing and am conditioning the RAID.
I will post a follow up.
