I’m sorry to be the one to point this out to you:
But if you don’t know how to fade in one layer, then move it from point A to point B in after effects…
You haven’t spent 40 seconds reading the manual.

Please, please, take the time to read the manual, check out some tutorials for beginners (Kathlyn pointed you to an excellent one in another thread), perhaps even buy some other books or a trainig CD or DVD if you’re serious about After Effects.

do a search for something like ‘indiana jones map’ and you’ll find tons of discussion about how to achieve effects like this.
