.aif import error into CS3
Posted by Suzanne Hemphill on October 9, 2007 at 8:17 pmI am getting an error every time I try to import an .aif file into AE CS3. It says it doesn’t support the file type “@@@@”. I get this even when opening an older AE 7 file that worked fine. Has anyone else had this problem. I have had to convert the .aif files to .mov files to import and prefer not to do this. Any thoughts?
Thanks!
Suzanne

October 10, 2007 at 6:09 amNot sure about the problem itself, but you should convert the file to .wav, not mov. If your .aiff file is very high quality, it won’t lose anything in the wav conversion.

October 10, 2007 at 9:31 pmI’m on a Mac, which doesn’t keep me from converting to .wav, but even that won’t import and I get the same error message. It’s very strange and I’ve been using AE since version 4 and never had this kind of problem before.
I’ve tried converting the audio file with everything… Bias Peak, Episode, Soundtrack, Soundbooth, and AE still doesn’t like the file. And I’ve tried importing sound files from many different sources with the same problem each time.
I appreciate the suggestion. Anyone else having the same issue?

October 10, 2007 at 10:43 pmIn situations like this it’s probably time to completely reinstall After Effects.

October 15, 2007 at 8:30 pmI’ve been having the same error, and it is very annoying. Suzanne, are you also on an Intel Mac? I wonder if that is where the problem occurs, because my co-workers do not have the same problem, but they are on PowerPC G5’s.
As a workaround, I’ve had luck taking the audio into Quicktime and exporting as a QT movie, with sound only. That seems to import fine, although its a pain in the tuccus.

October 15, 2007 at 8:39 pmYes, I’m on a new 8 core Mac Pro and I’ve been doing the same thing you’re doing. It IS a real pain and shouldn’t be an issue. I can’t import any kind of audio file, only QT files work to get audio into AE. Hopefully a future update will fix our problem.
Thanks for responding, I’m just glad to know I’m not the only one with this problem.
I’ll let you know if I find a solution.Suzanne

October 17, 2007 at 1:37 amRunning into the same problem with AE CS3. Both MP3s and AIFF files will not import eventhough I have done so in the past and the support site lists the files as compatible. Very frustrating on a deadline to have to convert to .mov.
Any hints or clues as to what the problem is would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

December 10, 2007 at 8:25 pmI was having no luck importing AIFF files into After Effects CS3 on my new Macintel. It could be that rather than reinstall all of my software on my new Mac Pro, I used the migration assistant to transfer all of my files and apps from my G5. I believe that was my problem.
The solution: Uninstall After Effects using the installation disk, and then reinstall.
Works as it should now. Hope that works for you.

December 11, 2007 at 5:18 amI did not use the migration assistant to update my system. I had read that going from the Power PC to the Intel system made that problematic. I installed all software fresh from disk when I got my new MacPro, so I can’t blame it on not doing a fresh install.
I have the Master Collection and don’t want to go to the problem of reinstalling my entire suite, not to mention all of my customized interfaces and palettes. I’m still hoping that an AE update will fix the problem. Seems I’d rather convert audio to .mov instead of reinstalling…..
