I’m NOT that excited to use AI in a creative way in premiere pro beta (I thought that was my job), but maybe it can help me with an “artifact”. Scattered throughout my video files are hundreds of red and yellow “periods” that are used as cues for voice overs. It would be easy to cover them over with a color matt, but there are hundreds of them. I would love to remove these from the final, client-bound outputs. I played with search in premiere pro beta and got nowhere. Any ideas?

Hello! First, you must create a solid blue background using a color matte and add it to a video track that can be used for adding backgrounds, then add the video on an upper track, apply Ultra Key to your video (Use different instances for each color you want to key out), use the eyedropper on each instance to select the red/yellow tone respectively, adjust the settings to clean up any rough edges, and that should do it.

Thank you, Ivan. I don’t really have a problem removing the periods. The problem is the sheer number. There are 6 hours of video and hundreds of these things. I’m hoping there is away I can use the new AI engine in Premiere Beta to help me out.

You’re welcome! You can use this technique regardless of the video length because the Ultra Key effect applies across the entire clip, no matter how long it is. Once you set it up to remove the red and yellow dots, it will process the full 6 hours automatically, so you don’t have to handle each instance manually. For this specific case, Ultra Key might be the quickest and easiest solution for your needs rather than an AI solution.

Not sure if AI has the capability yet to automatically but I imagine with time, there could be tools coming out that can handle this but it cannot automatically search where all the dots are and put an ultra key on it, thats something as Ivan said earlier, you will need to apply that. You can do it faster than the AI could at this point of time from what I researched. Good luck!

Hi Hector, thank you for your thoughtful response! I just wanted to gently clarify that when using the Ultra Key effect, it doesn’t require manually locating each instance of the red and yellow dots. The beauty of this tool is that it applies across the entire length of the video, removing the keyed colors wherever they appear. So, there’s no need to search for or isolate each dot manually—Ultra Key handles it all at once.

Sometimes we do look to AI for complex problems, but in cases like this, the tried-and-true tools can often be just as effective, if not faster. Ultra Key has been a reliable solution for years, and in this situation, it’s perfectly suited to the task. Thank you again, and I hope this helps clarify!

    Hey Will,

Just adding to the above suggestions.

You are going to be hard-pressed finding an AI software that will automatically find the tags, and remove them.

However, the biggest time consumer will be to go through all the footage, and there AI can help you.

Both of these online platforms starts from free. One word of advice, only select what you want it to search for, or you’ll get much more than you bargained for in meta-data, and cost of analysing.

In some cases you may need to upload a image of what you are looking for – this is normally used for identifying people, but can’t see why it could not also be used for your purpose.

Also keep in mind that AI is not perfect, but will save time for you.

I am affiliated with NOVA, going back to a time where they (then PromoMii) were AI search only before everybody else was doing it. You may, or may not get extra from using my link. But their CEO will be on hand to help you if needed:

I always try and include more than one choice. Strada, which in addition has a plug-in. I have not tried them, but looks interesting and starts from free:

    Hope that this helps.

Thanks, Mads (and to all). I’ll take a look at them. Understand, and Im not looking for a seamless solution. I expect that an AI engine will pick up many false positives (and false negatives) so Im not looking for it to remove the tags, just find them . Supposedly the premiere beta can do object finds but I have been unimpressed so far. It’s a lot of work so my hope is that some technology can give me a little aid.

I really appreciate all of the communities input.
