I was under the impression that there was a way to “log and transfer” p2 footage from material shot on a panasonic AG-HPS300 as Prores. But no matter what I do it comes in as DVCProHD. Is there a setting somewhere I am not finding?

Is anyone using the AVC intra codec? What would be the advantage or trade-off?

    Thanks.

If it comes in DVCPro HD, you shot DVCPro HD. The transcode to ProRes when you shot AVC-I.

All the time. 10 bit, full raster. DVCpro HD is 8 bit, thin raster.

The trade off? Since there’s no native AVC-I codec, you have to transcode to ProRes which takes longer. The quality difference makes it worth the wait in my opinion. I have been sending my requests to Apple to make AVC-I a native codec in FCP. This will speed up many processes in AVC-I and allow a much faster and more instant workflow. Hopefully Apple is listening.

The camera can also record as DVCProHD, which cannot be transcoded into ProRes via Log and Transfer, another thing that would greatly help mixed camera productions.

Double check your camera settings, my guess is you are not shooting AVC-I

We shot DVCPro HD. My query was if there is any way to get that in as Prores.

The AVC intra question was a separate thought… I should have been clearer 🙂 .

As Michael said, not through log and transfer. You will have to transcode to ProRes via Compressor.

If you want ProRes, shoot AVC-I as it’s 10bit full raster. DVCPro hd is 8 bit thin. ProRes is 10bit full raster.
