I have noticed that when I use an external mics with the panasonic adhvx200 that, when you select the input (by the phantom power)- input 1 pans to the left, and input 2 pans to the right (or vise versa).

The point is, is it possible to record audio as mono rather than stereo stright from the camera- like to use one input only (one mic) and it be not just on the left channel or the right channel?

Or, if this sounds like crazy talk, could this panning effect be attributed to the headphones I use (basic sennheisers).

Thanks, and I am sorry if this does not make much sense at the moment.

Hello Jessica and welcome to the Cow Audio Forum.

That’s pretty much what you get with a stereo mic.

There may be input switches on the audio inputs that allow a mono mic plugged into one camera XLR to be routed to both camera inputs.

If there isn’t, you can achieve the same by using a mixer in front of the camera audio input and panning the mic to center on the mixer.

You MIGHT be able to do use a Y-cable but that doesn’t work in all cases.
