    Yo!
I haven’t posted here for a long-long-long time. But I hope you will all take a look at this problem of mine. I am running After Effects 7 on a Mac G5 Dual 2.7 Ghz Power PC (Pre Intel!)
I’ve rammed it with 3.5 Gig of Ram across all its slots. However, recently, its developed a problem with rendering. Whenever it reaches halfway through a comp it stops and tells me: “After Effects error:opening movie–you do not have permission to open this file (-54).
Now I’m no tech-head, but I’ve set all my drive privileges to read & write, did one of those disk permissions tests and even upgraded to After Effects CS3.
But I don’t even know what that message means! Is it saying I haven’t got permission to open a movie it hasn’t finished rendering yet?
I’m trying to find the cause of the problem via a process of elimination. I’ve checked through all the layers, tried rendering with or without filters, reduced image/graphic size in Photoshop. Even tried rendering seperate layers with Alpha channels in order to recompose later.
None of it works, and for a machine of this spec it should be able to render 10 secs of animation!

I’m hoping someone has encountered this before. At the moment I’m investigating my Ram, in case its a system-wide problem, and looking to change the sticks to pairs of 1 gig strips instead of pilling up loads of 512’s!

Despite not posting here, I do check the site for tutorials and guidance. Its great, keep it up!
    Thanks in advance!

the problem is quicktime 7.4. You recently updated to that didn’t you.
There is a big thread about the issue here on the cow. I’d copy paste but I’m on an iPhone.
Do a little searching it won’t be hard to find.
