What are the best settings for going from final cut pro on mac to after effects on pc and back again with limited quality loss. Im currently using the h.264 one i think its called and it works but im not too sure if its the best quality possible… Its HD footage if that helps…

    Cheers,
    Dan

    Jep Dan,

If disc space is not an issue, that export a self contained movie out of FCP or proress compression
If it is, then use something like motion jpep, jpeg2000,…
H264 is meant for the web, so dont use is!!

Invest in the DVCproHD codec. There are a few sites that offer it for sale, one being:

    https://www.rastervector.com/

or try downloading the Avid codec pack and use either DV100 or DNxHD. Otherwise you can use the QT Animation codec. Like Mr. T said, H.264 is for web and for low-res QT files to send to client for work-in-progress approvals…

[Todd Morgan] “Otherwise you can use the QT Animation codec.”

Not to say there aren’t better alternatives but, in all the years I’ve been bouncing between machines and platforms, I’ve always used the trusty and reliable and universal Animation. New codecs come and go, Animation is still here.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

Hmm thanks guys. I read somewhere that final cut pro exports certain headers when you export a quicktime strait from FCP that PC computers cant read. Is that the case? Because AFX on the pc doesnt seem to open just a normal animation compressed quicktime when you export from FCP but does seem to when you export using compressor.. So you think animation is the one with the least lossyness?
