April 22, 2008 at 3:30 pmOnly 41 signers so far? Where the hell is everybody? This is why Apple is ignoring this… because everyone talks but no one does anything.

April 22, 2008 at 3:38 pmYou just about nailed my list, just add “Fix motion rendering speed, text tool, and especially templates.”
To me, I have no problem using encore for Blu ray should I need it– I can buy another tool for that– I can’t buy something to help me with the other core issues mentioned above.

April 22, 2008 at 4:53 pm[Mitch Ives] “How did Livetype being busted get past QA?”
My guess would be that no one ever checked LiveType. I’ve always wondered why LiveType is even around now that Motion is out. It’s like the program that will never see another update but since they have it, they might as well give it away for some people to play with.

April 22, 2008 at 5:14 pmI just signed it and that makes 51 signatures. It almost seems like more people were looking for RED features to be added more than Blu-ray support.
I just want it all:)

April 22, 2008 at 5:39 pmHey Mitch
You must surely know that its been discussed to death … I really think most folks are a bit tired of the topic :/
Anyone who really needs BluRay support has probably gone out and bought Adobe Encore and just got on with it. Just as with hardware, you buy when you need it, not wait in the hope that an unannounced update may or may not be released with or without an unannounced feature. If and when the support finally arrives in DVDSP all the better but until then …Fwiw, by first hand accounts, at the LAFCPUG Supermeet during NAB the Apple rep specifically teased the massed hordes with a “who wants BluRay support” taunt right at the end of the session, thereby giving a very clear message that Apple and the ProAppds devs were already very well aware of the clamour for such support, and one can only assume busily working on it (why else the public taunt?)

Red is the Next Hot Thing. Red is the Thing that Film Producers and Hollywood are talking about. Red is the Thing that got everybody excited about at NAB.
Apple cares about the Next Hot Thing, not something that is as lame as BluRay. Nevermind that it’s now the only High Definition DVD format out there. Apple would rather all of us purchase Apple TV so we can download HD movies instead of owning them on BluRay.
Personally, I have no clients even remotely interested in Red right now. They’re all quite happy with their Panasonic / Sony workflows. They figure they’ll let all the early adopters jump on the format to figure out where it does and does not work.

Yep, discussed, but they haven’t gotten aggressive enough with Apple yet…

And how does having every single FCP owner buy Premiere help Apple. If I was them I’d be concerned. The problem with having Premiere/Encore is that you discover a number of things it can do that Apple can’t. Things like easily making flash files while you’re making a BRD. If I was Apple, I’d nip this in the bud and damned quickly…

I saw Steve Martin of Ripple Training do this, not Apple. If Brian from Apple got up there, then it’s because people like me cornered him BEFORE the meeting and made a big damn deal of it. I asked him point blank: How could Apple be the first company to offer SD DVD burning, and then manage to not only be the last to offer BR DVD burning, but be the ONLY company that doesn’t currently have it? Not to put too fine a point on things…
Walter is right on target. I don’t have any clients demanding RED, and at the same time, ALL of my clients are demanding BR DVDs.

April 22, 2008 at 6:43 pmYou’re definitely right about RED being the next hot thing. Now that things have progressed far enough with workflow, I’m finally going to start using it. It will be interesting to see how things go from here after the first couple of shoots.
I don’t think that Apple is overlooking Blu-Ray, but I think that they’re just trying to get their timing right. DVDSP has probably been ready for Blu-Ray support for quite sometime, but a major update to DVDSP needs to be packaged with FCS3 as I see it as a major selling point for people to upgrade. So until the other ProApps are ready with equally impressive features, I don’t think Apple’s going to let it out.
Blu-Ray authoring is something that would be really nice not because I’m going to deliver movies for mass duplication, but because there really needs to be a good way of playing back HD footage for presentations, special screenings, etc.
