March 24, 2012 at 1:22 amIs GPU the primary reason for the Vegas 11 crashes (issues)? I still use 10e but would like to use the new MainConcept AVC Internet Templates in 11. But they’re of no use if the 11 crashes with or without GPU enabled.

March 24, 2012 at 3:26 amMost of the issues rest with the GPU integration, along with
just a few otherwise Tyson. And so the usage of certain plugins
is what makes some editors frustrated with the problems.Steve Rhoden

March 24, 2012 at 3:52 amI have had success with rendering on my system using an NVidia GTX 570.
Many of the crashes “from” SVP 11 that I experienced went away with the beta and finally the released NVidia drivers the past two months. That leads me to believe that OpenCL support in the drivers were the problem. SVP 11 is not as stable as SVP 8 or 10 were for me, but I do all my projects on it now. My projects are for home videos, school projects, and scouting slideshows…so I am more tolerant of the crashes than someone whose business depends on it. The last project had a few crashes and they all occured when dragging a NewBlue Titler event to the timeline. I basically saved before adding any new title and when I was able to get past the initial dragging it to the timeline, I had no problems going back and forth making changes to the generated media. If you are getting 0% through the render, try changing where the render file is being saved to and also what sources are being used. Is it with any media source no matter the size or type? Are you running antivirus or something else that will try to intercept file creations? If you can reproduce this with a simple small project that you can share, then I would be willing to try the render on my system and report any errors I have. Any errors in the logs you could share?

I have a similar problem (I have a NVidia card though). If I add a 3rd party plugin using cuda technology then hit play, I can’t render using GPU (Same undertermined error as you). If I close Vegas then restart it, Don’t play, and render immediately, I can use GPU with Mainconcept. I have an open case with sony for months… no solution so far except the workaround above (or use CPU only but render a very very long…) -

March 24, 2012 at 2:47 pmHi Guillaume,
Thanks for this. In the current project, I’m not using any special pluggins other than sony color corrector. I’ll still give the close/open/render sequence and see what happens.
If it works, I’ll report back with a fanfare. Not holding my breath.

March 24, 2012 at 2:50 pmHi Mark,
I doubt the file output location will make a diff, same with the antivirus but I’m willing to give it a try.
Where are the render logs located?

I was told by a computer sales friend of mine to stick with Nvidia workstation cards ,go for open CL, and get as much video memory as possible. I got the card below for $100 at Tiger Direct and have had no problems with rendering or GPU accel on an i7 desktop. I also did not need to replace the power supply with this card. I am running a Gateway 3.2 Ghz i7 on Win7 64bit. The video card that came with the computer was on the low end of Sony’s spec. I spent 3-4 hours going through specs online for the closest affordable compatibility.

March 25, 2012 at 6:49 amDo a {Win Key} R to get a run dialog and paste the following in
%USERPROFILE%appdatalocalsonyvegaspro11.0
See if there are any errors in these files that may give us a clue to what is happening. Did you have something for me to render so we can see if it is Sony Vegas Pro or something specific to you computer that is causing the problem?

March 26, 2012 at 3:01 amThanks Colin,
Price certainly is right. I’ll definitely have a closer look if I can’t find a solution with my current card.

March 26, 2012 at 3:04 amHi Mark,
I get an error when I copy/paste the cmd and try to run it, even after adding the missing “\” (I thinkg).
I also did a search for the substring “sonyvegas” in my profile folder and the folder was not found.
