  • After firmware and driver updates – no video

Posted by Tom Vickers on October 7, 2005 at 9:45 pm

I recently updated the firmware & drivers and installed the Control Panel software. I’m running FCP 4.5 on a G5 (dual 2Ghz).
I cannot get FCP to see the video from the IO. I can monitor out of the IO so I know the signal is coming through but I get the “preview disabled” bars on my Log and Capture window and FCP will not capture because it does not recognize the video.

I have tried to force it to see my analog signal (component Betacam) through the Control Panel,, but when I open FCP afterwards still no video.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I just had this happen yesterday. Reload your AJA drivers, and your control panel.
Once you restart, open your IO Control Panel, and select component video input, and pass your Beta VTR thru the IO -monitor the IO output on your TV monitor. I bet you see a picture. (Don’t even run FCP to try this – just reload your drivers and control panel, and open up the control panel -not FCP – it will work !).

Power cycle your Io as well (turn it off and back on). I would also trash your FCP prefs and caches.

Thanks for the suggestions. I had trashed preferences and recycled to no avail.

I eventually had to download the Io Uninstaller and completely reinstall an earlier version of the Io software. It’s running fine now although I have not moved back up to the most recent drivers (I’m waiting until I finish the show I’m working on before I try that again).

I should mention, for anyone having a similar problem, that I am running OSX 10.39 and have not upgraded to Tiger yet. I don’t know if that could affect things.

    Thanks again for the resposes.

I just had the SAME thing happen to me, except it just was black (no video), although my IO indicated that proper signals were being sent. The audio levels and RS-422 control was there, so I almost uninstalled….

HOWEVER, I ended up opening that IO Control Panel thing, and under the ‘CONTROL’ tab, I noticed that the levels were all askew. I hit ‘RESET ALL’ (or whatever it said), and volia, I had my video track back. Evidentely it had dropped the video, contrast, and hue levels to a point where the video was too dark to see.

Try this next time you install the updates (if you get the same issue, of course!)

I just experienced the *exact* same problem with an IoLD and FCP 4.5 after upgrading my firmware and the drivers. I found this thread after futzing around for a while on my own – uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, changing presets, poking around in all the various preferences (and trashing the same several times), all to no avail. Frankly, I hadn’t even installed the control panel on my system, thinking that it wouldn’t make a lot of sense on an LD only system. Guess I was wrong! ;->

Whatever the reason for this behavior, I’d like to suggest that the remedy be added to the Io troubleshooting FAQ on aja.com. That would have saved me some time.
