Ok so I started out with After Effects when I got into motion graphics and compositing and all that good stuff. My question is, After Effects is for motion graphics, and color correction, and compositing. And motion is mainly for motion graphics, but I find it hard to be able to create solid clean sharp good looking graphics with Motion, and of course its still not easy for me to do in AE (im only 18) but it just seems like in motion that you have to go around your elbow to get to your ass, (pardon expression), now this of course may be a bias opinion since I am not use to the motion workflow, but i would just like to know if anyone else uses motion to create the brunt of their motion graphics, or it they prefer AE. Thank You

they are different tools that only resemble each other on the surface.
You can compose letters in Excel but it’s easier to do in Word but both are fully capable text editors.

Motion and AE are both necessary in most advanced workflows. Which to use might be based on where media starts and ends up, who else is working on the project, and which sets of plugins you are going to make your investments in.

If you are making a living in motion graphics and have a Macintosh/FCP setup, you will need both. If you have CS3/PC, you can only dream and wonder about how Motion might make you life easier or more fun.

Not because I don’t believe you, but because I’m curious: why would you need Motion? I have both the CS3 Production Premium package as well as Final Cut Studio 2 and I never use Motion. Am I missing out on some advanced capabilities/interoperability between Motion and FCP?

Well, there’s the “send to” workflow between the two.

Given that using both FCP and AE on an editing job can be frustrating workflow-wise, I might just learn Motion for the simpler stuff. Yes, I have the Duck, but it still requires committing once you’re in AE. Hm.
