I’m onlining a short film that was shot on 16mm to Digibeta but it has a scratch in the film. If I were to fix the scratch using After Effects, do I do it after the online? I know this is more of a workflow question but I don’t have much expereince incorporating SFX shots into film.

    thanks

I actually do have picture lock so I know exactly what has to be fixed, it’s just that I edited it on an offline system so I have to go elsewhere for it to be onlined at a higher resolution. I guess I give the compositor the shots that have to have to be fixed from the online and then she gives them back to me fixed uncompressed and I incorporate them then?

that would be the way to do it.

its not a bad idea to have at least few frames of handle as well… just in case

    who is that masked man…

Yes, because you want the compositor to be working with high-res material. AE can replace low-res footage with hi-res footage, but it’s not as automatic a process as offline-to-online in an NLE.
