  • After Effects warning: Couldn’t open Quicktime video output component

I’m running OS X 10.4.2 and can’t use firewire preview.

When AFX launches I get this message:
After Effects warning: Couldn’t open Quicktime video output component.

I have a G5 with a Sony DVMC DA2 which has worked well up to 10.3.9. The device is correctly identified in the System Profiler but neither AFX or FCP see it.

I wonder whether this is an issue with QT 7.

Yes, the same happened to me as well. Luckily, it’s an easy fix. Just follow the directions and you’ll be previewin’ in no time!

Actually had tried this. Removed receipts and re-installed AT 7.

FCP previews work fine but AFX continued to give the error message and refused to see the Firewire output.

Trashing AFX prefs solved the problem.

Cool. Glad it’s working for you now.
