I’m importing image sequences into AE (animated with time remapping), then using paint tools to create traveling masks. My problems are as follows:

I want to use just one brush with path keyframes to follow the movement so that it can be easily converted to masks. Once I have a keyframe for my brush stroke, on subsequent frames AE won’t let me join two brush strokes (usually achieved by holding down shift while continuing to paint). As they are pretty complex images, I can’t conceivably paint every single frame in one stroke. Is there a way to get around this (to join brush strokes after the first frame)?

If not, then I end up with one brush stroke for every frame. Is there a quick way to take all of those brush strokes and paste them into one animated mask? Right now, I’m having to create keyframes for each stroke, then paste them one by one (frame by frame) into my “master” brush, which can then be pasted as a mask. It seems that there must be a better, less mind numbing way.

And for those that would suggest track mattes or whatever, I need my masks like this as I’m using time remapping to animate the individual frames. I need the timing of the animation to be easily editable, and for me, being able to simultaneously select the time remapping and mask keyframes to change the timing is the easiest way. Of course, any other processes that could do this I’m open to hearing about. I’m just a bit attached to this way as it seems the most straight forward.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.
