After Effects Training CD’s On Ebay….
Posted by Jana on June 15, 2005 at 1:23 amJust wondering if anybody has purchased any training cds off of ebay for After Effects,
I am trying to decide between a $20 cd and a $50 6 cd set. The companies are “how to gurus” and “Majic Media” I am interested in purchasing the 6 cd set, but was wondering any comments about things like this on ebay.
Thanks in advance

June 15, 2005 at 2:28 amI’d say where you buy is far less important than what you buy…I’m not familair with the two you mentioned, but can tell you that Brian Maffitt and Chris & Trish Meyer are widely considered to make some of the best training materials for AE. Just search the Cow for “training” and you’ll find plenty of detailed opinions on various AE training products.

June 15, 2005 at 2:08 pmI haven’t heard of those companies, but as with Dave’s post, I highly recommend Total Training and the Meyers’ books. Can’t go wrong with those. Brand new, the Total Training DVDs can seem to be pricey, but for us, they were worth every penny. More than paid for themselves over the last little while. Excellent stuff on there. Maybe you can find those on eBay?

June 15, 2005 at 4:59 pmPersonally, I have never even heard of these two training tools. There are many out there that I *have* seen which are sent to us for review and possible inclusion in the Cow and they are so poorly done that we will not even bother to review them and have no intention of adding them to the site’s After Effects books/DVDs page.

June 16, 2005 at 2:13 amI’ve heard of them and they are not spoken of poorly necessarily, but considering the price I’d make absolutely certain that you’re not buying one of the thousands of the infamous eBay “duplicated” disks. Obviously, that’s illegal not to mention the fact that many of the supplemental advantages of any training media is its relationship with the creator and/or publisher and your ability to communicate with them regarding your questions. I’d venture a guess that you’ll not get a lot of support form a CD priced at $20 bucks, second hand or otherwise.
