  • After Effects taking up internal disk space

I’m fairly new to AE so this may be a simple thing I’m overlooking. I’m running a MacBook Pro with 16GB RAM and MacOS 10.12 and the most recent release of AE. I’ve been given a project that’s already set up with a lot of assets in it and it runs fine but while AE is open it takes up 15-30GB of my internal disk drive. The amount of space that is taken up fluctuates and I can watch it change in the the “About this Mac” storage tab. The cache disk is set to an external drive and when I close out of AE the space that was filled frees up. Space on my internal drive is limited since I only have 256GB to begin with. Any idea why this would be happening and is there anyway to stop it?

It’s not the caches, I’ve checked all those. The space that’s taken up frees up when I quit the program.
