If it’s only AE that’s causing the issue then start up AE with the COMMAND+SHIFT+OPTION (CTRL+SHIFT+ALT – PC) keys depressed until you see the Delete Preferences dialog window. Delete preferences and hopefully all will be fine.

You may have a graphics card issue with AE and this can (hopefully) be fixed by meddling with AE’s OpenGL related settings.
