After Effects Shatter
Posted by Norm Hadad on January 7, 2013 at 3:34 pmI’m pretty new to AE and I’m still using 5.5. For some reason, when I use shatter effect on my text it doesn’t animate. It stays in a half shattered state on my timeline. I start a new comp and add the effect and it works fine. What am I doing wrong?

A screenshot where the animation stucks would help.

January 7, 2013 at 9:05 pmSo I figured out why I had the previous problem. It starts at beginning of the clip. I guess my real question is how do I start the shatter deeper into the clip as opposed to right off the top of the clip?

January 7, 2013 at 9:28 pmanimating the force depth and/or radius can be used to control when a layer starts to shatter.
also, the shatter effect starts it’s ‘shattering’ at the layer’s inpoint, so if you drag the layer further down the timeline it will start later in the timeline.
of course this means that if you need the layer to be visible prior to it starting to shatter, you will need to duplicate that layer, remove the shatter effect and trim the outpoint to time with the shatter layer’s inpoint.

Pre-comp your layer on which Shatter is applied and then enable Time-Remap. Now press UU and drag the first keyframe from where you want to start your animation.
