  • after effects renders are washed out

    Hello Everybody,
I know this question has come up many times, but I haven’t found a solution yet:

I’m working in after effects (using Keylight for keying) with clips exported from final cut in DVCPRO HD, 720 p60. Everything looks fine in AE and in the kona lhe video preview. The rendered movie, however looks washed out when it’s brought into final cut. It sorta looks like the setup is raised. I’ve tried various color management options in after effects to no avail.

    I’m using FCP 6.02, After Effects CS3, Mac OS 10.5.2, quicktime 7.5.

    Thanks!
    Bob

In which format are you exporting from AE? Are you not exporting AJA RGB Logaritmic?

    Mac OX 10.5.2-FC 6.02-QT 7.4.1
    G5 2x2Gh 4GbRAM-BlackMagic Extreme
    PMBP 17″Core2Duo 4GbRAM-AJA ioHD
    JVC DTV-17″
    SONY EX-1 . SONY PD170
..and always a big mess on top of the table.

No, I’m exporting as DVCPRO HD, 720 x 1280, square pixels.

    I’ll try that one….

    Thanks!

[Bob Pierce] “No, I’m exporting as DVCPRO HD, 720 x 1280, square pixels.”

    DVCPRO-HD doesn’t have square pixels, 720 res is 960×720,
but played out to 1280×720, but if you just choose dvcpro-hd
as the render codec it should be fine.

also be sure in the interpret footage dialogue the “expand to 701 color space” or whatever its called, is enabled.

You should be able to export it the way you are and not
have a gamma problem. I did a tv series using that and it worked.

Thanks, Chris. Yes, I know that DVCPRO HD doesn’t have square pixels, but somehow I got the idea in my head that I needed to use this setting. It’s been working for me up to now, anyway! I’ll try your suggestions.
    Thank you!
