  • After Effects panning plus animation – a tricky question

    Hi
I have a panning video background which I am trying to animate over the top.
The background is a pan of snowy mountains and I want to animate lines (like star bursts) radiating out of some of the mountain tops.
My problem is that because the pan has been done by hand it isnt entirely smooth. So having a fixed point for these lines to radiate out of is causing the animation to look jerky – I have had to import a small dot of colour and try and match this to a point in the background for this to be the centre of the burst

Is there any way I can identify a point on the background which would be more accurate and allow the animation to be smoother – rather than follwing a dot which I have tried to get to follow a point on the background?

If anyone has a any ideas I would be so happy. This is so frustrating !
    Thanks in advance

you should stabilize the shot by using the stabilize motion feature inside track motion.

use the point where you want the effects to fly out as your point to stabilize…preview it from the playback button in the window, and if it looks right..apply it to the video.
you might need to do some cropping though..the image will stay still but the video file will move around, revealing black corners and such..of course it depends on how violent the shaking is..

if the pan is long..you might want to stabilize first…then create a motion track which you apply to the layer with the effect..that way your effect will stay on that exact point you want it to be at.
