After effects painfully slow on my mac pro

Have you been into AFX preferences and switched on the multi-threading option (it’s called “Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously” is CS6? I ticked the equivalent in CS3 on my macbook and it sped up rendering substantially.
Which operating system are you running? I have strong suspicions that my Mac Pro slowed down a lot when I put 10.7 on it. It’s a 2x3Ghz quad core xeon with 12GB ram, but my 10.6 2011 2.1Ghz 8GB RAM MBP compresses video from Quicktime Pro at about 70-80% of the speed of the Mac Pro.

Without knowing any of the specifics about what you’re doing (what your projects are like, what renderer or effects you’re using, what your render times are, what version of Ae you’re using), it’s hard to give you specific advise.

Here’s some general advise: 16 GB of RAM is not a lot for 8 cores. I’d suggest you double that to 32 GB. Right now, most of your CPU power is sitting idle for lack of RAM.

You should turn multiprocessing on. Try leaving 6 GB free for other apps. Try allocating 3 GB per background process. Leave half your CPUs free (not that it really matters here — with this little RAM and with these memory settings, Ae will only start 3 render processes anyway).

yes i’ve changed that setting but there was no diffrence on final

my os is the latest 10.9 maverics and my after effects is cs6

when i googled the problem i saw many of people have same problem !!
so what can i do now

Have you turned off the Mavericks “App Nap” feature for Ae?

my aftereffects is cs6 and my os is the latest maverics 10.9

i tried in different projects with 3d effects and without , also i’ve a blackmagic 2,5 k cinema camera
when i import the camera’s raw files in IMAC i can export them 2 times faster than mac pro!!

and tried with multiprocessor and without but there’s no difference in final

for example i bouhgt an ae project from internet
in imac the render time is 4 hours but in mac pro is 6 hours

Again, does it make a difference if you disabled Apple’s App Nap feature for the Ae application?

I had this same problem with After effect, premiere and photoshop that they were literally crawling with a beachball sign every now and them. I found that both the indexing and Time machine backup was working together and they were eating up almost all the cpu threads causing the system wide slowness.The time machine was stuck for some reason. I read this post on Fix slow Mac after upgrade and followed the steps mention in there and now it works perfectly fine.
