  • After Effects overlay in Final Cut Pro

    Hi there

I have an issue regarding rendering a transparent lower third in After effects and then overlaying the clip into my FCP project.

I find when I import the lossless export from AE into FCP and drag it over the top off my pre-keyed clip (or any clip), it leaves a grey border around the transparent image. I have noticed this on every lossless with alpha render I have made as an overlay in FCP, but as you can see (have attached a screen grab) against the light background, it stands out massively !

I’m sorry to bother you on this, but you guys might have a simple answer, but it is something I have never figured out and it’s driving me insane !!

    Cheers

    Matt

When you rendered out of After Effects, did you set your alpha channel to straight or pre-multiplied. Also, you mentioned Lossless. Did you export as Apple Animation or Pro Res 4444? I’ve been using Pro Res 4444, since it will play with realtime.

I gotten that gray border on some graphic files until I render the effect. Then it goes away.

You want to use straight whenever possible, or you willat times get the fringe. Straight is perfection.

Thanks for your replies. Looks like when I export the clip in either Apple ProRes 4444 or animation and select ‘Straight’ as the colour, overlays sharp and removes the border.

Thanks very much for your help, it has taken me so long to work this out !
