After Effects Nulls from Path
Hi, first time posting here, so bear with me. I need to come up with a line race chart and created a path in zig zag (only for the sake of creating it <IM1>), this path will have certain stroke (I don’t need only the path but the stroke to be visible as well). Now I need another shape to follow the new path that was created using the nulls <IM2> but the animation is following the original path that I made in a zigzag. Can I create a duplicate to “un-null it” and keep new path? Hope I explained myself, I’m very new to expressions and json files for data driven animations

Hi Albert, unfortunately expressions can only access the path as it is stored in the original property or keyframe, not how it finally looks after trnsformations such as wiggle paths or zig zag.
Maybe you can achieve your path design in illustrator, and import it ?

I think I misunderstood, because you used the word “zigzag”, but you didn’t actually add a zigzag modifier ?
Anyway, I don’t have the problem you do:
- create a random zig zag shape
- select the shape Path and run “Create Nulls From Path” -> Points Follow Nulls
- reposition the Nulls so they now form a straight line.
- select the Shape again (it now has an expression applied)
- run “Create Nulls From Path” -> Trace Path
- The new Null that is created follows the straight line (or whatever I manipulate it in to), not the original zigzag.
Perhaps your problem can be fixed just by emptying the cache ?

Absolutely brilliant! Exactly what I need. I must admit, I spent more hours trying to figure it out how to achieve that and it was always in front of me.
