After Effects not seeing a compatible version of Quick Time installed
Hello everyone, I hope that some can shed some light on this problem for me – I’m getting rather desperate.
When I open After Effects, I get the following the message, “Quick Time functions will be disabled because a compatible version of Quick Time could not be found”. This makes it impossible for me to import and/or export any .MOVs…..which creates quite the dilemma for me.
The message began appearing a couple of weeks ago, after I uninstalled QT through the Control Panel and selected the “Uninstall Everything” option. I have since tried reinstalling QT, which did not help. As well as, trying to do a system restore point previous to the uninstallation date, which did me no good either. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Not sure if this is still true with recent versions of AE since I always have QT installed, but if I recall correctly, early versions of AE required QT to be installed on the system first for AE to install at all … I would guess so that AE could recognize its presence during install and link to the necessary QT components. So, you may have to reinstall AE after getting your QT properly installed. If you work like I do, with a very very customized AE, reinstalling can be a major hassle so I’d exhaust other possibilities first.

I had to go out of town for a while, but I have tried everything I can think of. Reinstalling QT, doing a repair installation of AE, doing a complete reinstall of the entire CS3 Suite, and nothing seems to remedy this issue. I really need to get this fixed – just about every piece of stock footage is a .MOV and now I have to transcode them all to .AVI just to use them. Not very time efficient, or good on my stress levels! 😉
Does anyone out there have any more ideas what it could be? Thanks.

I recently had this same problem. I registered here so that I could hopefully give you good news. I realize it’s been a while since your last post and you might have already fixed your problem. If so, then maybe this will help others. Go to your QuickTime installation directory and find QTCF.dll. Copy that file to \Adobe After Effects CS3\Support Files. Next time you start AE it should work.

I’ve this problem too and i’ve copied QTCF.dll. to \Adobe After Effects CS3\Support Files but nothing happens. any other suggestion please

just copy all dlls from QuickTime dir to AE/ support dir, and when it not works copy all files from QT/plugins dir to support dir. I make it, and works:D -

Thanks your solution saved me a lot of trouble. Copying and pasting QTCF.dll in the adobe after effects file work the first time. Trying to re-install adobe after effect never worked. Thanks A million.
