After Effects mov file
Hi There,
Im pretty much a novice when it comes to after effects so please excuse my lack of knowledge.
I have .png sequence that I bring into AE (CS3) from 3d Max. My issue is what is the correct settings to use to render to a .mov file that is nice and smooth and not choppy as I need a nice .mov file to encode into a .flv file
So far my .mov files that I render out from AE are somewhat choppy.
Any help would really appreciated.

do the png sequences look fine when you do a ram preview in ae?
if so, the you should be ok. the lossless mov files may have a data rate that exceeds that of your hard drive and you are unable to play back the files in real time with out skipping frames here and there. this is common working with uncompressed or losslessly compressed files. they tend to be very large, and are intended to be used as an intermediate codec to avoid quality loss going between the various stages of production (which is exactly how you are using them, to go from ae to another tool to create the final piece).
i think i would go ahead and try compressing to the final flv and see how the flv pays out.

Sorry for my delay in getting back to you.
I kinda managed to sort it out I think.
This is what I did.Import the png seq into AE
render q my comp
Make the settings 25 fps and and high quality and render the clip out ready to encode via the flash encoder.
tested on web and this works and looks fine.If Im really honest my trade originally was graphic design then going into flash design work but over the past year I have been learning max and the last few months AE.
In AE when you set your comp size and settings does it have to conform to a certain size..the reason I ask is today I made a 205px by 260px comp then brought in a png seq and rendered it out fine.
My mind set is used to setting up whatever canvas/stage size I need so Im really ignorant on the video side. Do you have any really links to a good ‘Dummies guide’ to video size and generally settings that you think may help if so I would appreciate any pointers.

nope, ae is very flexible, you can set it up to just about any size or aspect ratio (there is a max limit, but ae is capable of film resolutions, so the limit is quite high).
the only potential issue can come with compression… some video codecs will only work with video frame sizes. some codecs will crash or give you and error if the comp is not of a video standard, others will conform the frame size when rendering.
i think that it is unlikely that you will run into any problems, i just wanted to let you know about that.
