    I recently bought Production Premium CS3. While in either after effects or premiere and I scrub through my timeline or undock my comp window, my computer locks up. I rarely get through a render without it crashing. I get no blue screen or any error. My specs are: Phenom 9600, ECS A770m, 4gb RAM dual channel, geforce 8400gs, 500gb WD caviar. I have upgraded the memory and ran memtest on it. Could it be my psu? It came with the case and may not like the quad core? Any help would be much appreciated, i’m pulling out my hair! Also, I am running vista ultimate 64bit. Tried the latest and greatest drivers with no solution.

    Thanks for the information. I also have used Vegas with the same problem, maybe it is my footage? I use a JVC everio. It can be shot in 1920×1080 (i usually use this) but it saves it to the HDD as .tod. I use Mpeg streamclip to convert to mpeg with mp2 audio, is this wrong?? Sony Vegas reads the .tod files fine though.

    Thanks for clearing that up. I am familiar with the Quicktime Animation and Photo JPEG. I will give those a shot and hopefully it resolves my woes.

    Just stumbled across this thread. If its true that AE CS3 can’t cope properly with native footage such as HDV, MPEG then that’s staggering. This type of footage is used all the time, and with the integration between Premiere and AE you’d just expect that AE would either deal with it in its native format or transcode it in some way when it is first imported so that it can deal with it. You wouldn’t expect that footage would have to first be re-encoded externally, adding potentially hours to the workflow. And if it can’t properly deal with certain types of footage it should throw up a dialogue on import stating that fact, and offering options to deal with it. It definitely shouldn’t just lock up… (hope someone from Adobe reads this…)
