    Dear Agony Aunt

Now, I’ve had this problem for a while now as have a few other people in the studio, apologies if this has been covered before but I couldn’t find it in the threads…

Occasionally After Effects (6.5) will simply seize up for up to a minute after a simple action (moving a key-frame, shifting up and down the time line etc…). Once it starts this behaviour it continues to do it in random intervals and to random (simple) actions. I have a nice new computer with good processors etc…, a spare hard drive for my cache, memory is up to 120% you name it. It also bears no relevance to the project as right now I’m doing an animatic with 24 jpegs and it’s almost impossible to work with.

Does anyone else have this problem and know if there’s anything I can do (that doesn’t involve re-installing as I’ve done this before and it still happens) or at the very least can someone tell me that they suffer from this too so that I know I am not alone!! Like I say, I’ve experienced this thing for about a year and a bit and it does go away after a while but this latest time is the last straw… (by the way I do love After Effects, it is the heart of my work and it’s just this thing that bends my brain!)

    Frustrated from London.

(Oh – and the current project with 24 jpegs – they are all around 900×400 pixels so it’s not a size issue)

Have you tried updating to 6.5.1? The free update may still be on Adobe’s site somewhere.

Its highly unlikely, but have you tried turning off the autosave feature?

I found something that alleviates the problem of AE locking up all the time:

In your preferences under the general tab turn off ‘Synchronize time of all related items’. If you have multiple nested comps it has to adjust through all of the comps before you can perform the next operation.

    May do the trick…

First off, we’re all, mostly uncles here, very few aunts and aunties abound in these parts – sad to say. Which OS are you on and you will need to provide more info on what it is that you are doing, including info on audio layes etc.

    Cheers
