  • After Effects for Compression?

I’m using After Effects cs3 to do some final color timing to a 720p HD music video. I’m working off of uncompressed 720p quicktime files, and when I’m done, I plan to compress the video to the H.264 codec for upload to websites such as Vimeo.

My question is, can I do the compression out of After Effects, or would I get better results by rendering out uncompressed and then using something like Compression or Sorenson Squeeze?

You might get better quality out of a dedicated encoding package but if you are then uploading to the likes of Vimeo, you’re unlikely to be able to tell the difference with the end result.

Thanks for the reply, Daniel. I’m totally new to the world of compression.

I plan to do a couple of tests in order to make my final decision.

A related question would be if it’s best to use After Effects to convert 24p to 30i or if a dedicated compressor would work better.
