After Effects FCP 5 and Decklink on Tiger
There is something very wrong with After Effects and Decklink 5 on Tiger and it is related to another post about gamma levels. I have just done some comparisons and can confirm that on Tiger 10.4.2 running the latest updated Studio apps and Quicktime 7.0.1, After Effects 6.5 outputs a darker version of the same file than FCP.
One can see this by opening both apps and importing the same footage into each. In FCP park the playhead on a suitable frame, ( preferably use footage with people in in it as skin tones go noticeably darker ). Note the timecode frame number and then switch to AE. Using the same footage create a composition and again park the playhead on the same frame. You should see the difference. However, because whilst doing this the screen probably went black, it might not be easy to see the effect. You should if you have both apps open be able to see FCP behind your AE app. Click on it to transfer you back to FCP. The picture will go brighter.
Also try this. In After Effects toggle the project to 16 bit. It’s not very pleasant. Maybe it’s an Adobe problem but whatever it’s a pain in the ****.
I live and work in Melbourne so if any of the Blackmagic guys want to see this first hand post me and we can meet up
