After Effects Expressions book project files
Posted by James Laruffa on August 13, 2010 at 10:03 amI just received the book by Marcus Geduld and am having trouble with the project files. The assets are ok, but the projects files give me an error. Something about version 9.
I am on CS3. Should this work? I download project files from other sources and have never had a problem.
Being a computer programmer for over 20 years, I am real anxious to get started.
Thanks!

August 13, 2010 at 9:08 pmThe error message is:
After Effects error: The file you are attempting to open was created with After Effects version 9.0×272 (Macintosh Intel) and cannot be opened with this version. See https://www.adobe.com/aftereffects for more information on upgrading your software.
I tried this on a PC running XP SP2 and Windows 7 Home Premium.

August 13, 2010 at 9:22 pmSorry, I should have figured it out from your first post. It seems the project file was created with AE CS4 so you won’t be able to open it with CS3.

August 14, 2010 at 1:53 amThanks, Dan.
That’s what I thought…How hard would it be for someone to convert the chapters to CS3? Would they just need to manually key everything in again?
I have an idea. If someone converts them to CS3 and posts them somewhere, I will return the favor by converting them to AE7 and post them for users on AE7.
If not, do you think its worth my while to do go through the book without the project files?
Thanks again for the replies.

August 14, 2010 at 3:12 amAssuming you had access to CS3 and CS4, you wouldn’t have to manually key everything in, you should be able to just copy and paste the expressions from a CS4 project to a CS3 project. I think the book is still useful, even without the project files. Most expressions are simple enough to enter directly into After Effects or, type them into a text editor and copy & paste.
