I get this error code, “After Effects Error: Opening Sound Component -2166” when I try to render a simple effect in AF 5.5. Never had it in the past. Does anybody know what this means? Thanks

Is there an MP3 in the comp? If so, you need to use QT Pro (or similar) to convert the MP3 to WAV or AIFF.

What version of Quicktime are you using?
I had this error using AE6 w/QT 7.0.2, reverted to 7.0.1 and no more error message.

Anyone know if this is fixed with the new 7.0.3 upgrade?

thanks. i was using 7.0.3 so that version was also causing the problem. there are a few fixes that are posted on the apple web page that help to uninstall 7.0.3 It had to do with using Pacifist. thanks for the clues. fixed the problem.
