  • After Effects equivalent for Photoshop Video Layers ?

Lately I’ve been doing some animation using Photoshop animation tools = video layers. Great for the jittery / hand made look.

I render out a video, draw in Photoshop then importing the animation video layer to After Effects.

All is well with this, I only wonder if there’s any way to do this kind of brush animation straight in After Effects.

I know ye olde brush tool but the fact that it draws in the source video window makes it kind of useless for working over video.

    thanks

That – I know. And I’d don’t really need the brushes.

I’m looking for the convenient drawing style, jumping frames and drawing, onion skinning and all that jazz, not to mention the ability to actually see the layer I’m drawing over !

Not to mention that after effects is opening a layer for each brush stroke. With keyframes. What a mess.

    Hope I’m clearer now. Thanks

You can draw over a layer by setting the paint settings to “paint on transparent” It might help to make a layer just for the paint effect. Also using the 1 and 2 keys you can jump backwards and forwards the time specified in the stroke duration.
